The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class [then Private] Marvin N. Jansen (ASN: 38155054), United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy while serving with the 90th Infantry Division in northern France. On 7 June 1944, the ship in which he was being transported to France was hit in compartment 5, containing his company. The explosion caused heavy timbers to become dislodged, blocking the hatch and injuring several men. While others were abandoning the ship, Private First Class Jensen on his own initiative and in disregard for his own personal safety, remained in the hold and assisted three injured companions by removing the beams which were pinning them down and assisted them on deck thereby saving their lives.
