    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Legion of Merit to Colonel (Field Artillery) William P. Grieves, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States from June 1954 to July 1965. [This award supersedes award of the Army Commendation Medal to Colonel Grieves for meritorious service during the period September 19590 to August 1962 as announced in General Orders Number 64, Headquarters, Department of the Army, dated 13 November 1962.]
