Department of the Army, General Orders No. 27 (August 13, 1965)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Major (Corps of Engineers) Kenneth R. Tiger, United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy as a member of the Supply and Maintenance Agency, United States Army Communications Zone, Europe, in the vicinity of Verdun, France, on 18 December 1964. Major Tiger and two other Army soldiers were on the scene when a fire broke out in a trailer which was the home of a military family. Upon learning that a 15-month old child was inside the blazing trailer, Major Tiger and his fellow soldiers broke down a locked door to rescue the baby. With complete disregard for his own safety, he entered the flaming structure and participated in evacuating the child to a place of safety. Major Tiger’s prompt action and heroic conduct in this emergency are in the highest traditions of the United States Army and reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
