Headquarters, 25th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 8662 (July 4, 1969)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Specialist Fifth Class Larry Ray Clark (ASN: 26920724), United States Army, for gallantry in action. Specialist Fifth Class Clark distinguished himself by heroic actions on 19 June 1969, while serving with Troop B, 3d Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in the Republic of Vietnam. While on a reaction mission for Troop C, Troop B came under a heavy small arms and rocket propelled grenade attack from a large enemy force. Immediately, Specialist Clark began to put out a devastating volume of suppressive fire on the enemy positions. With complete disregard for his own safety, Specialist Clark remained exposed as he continued to engage the enemy with his personal weapon until he was mortally wounded. His valorous actions contributed immeasurably to the success of the mission and the defeat of the hostile force. Specialist Clark’s bravery, aggressiveness, and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 25th Infantry Division and the United States Army.
