    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain (Field Artillery) Claiborne W. Davis, Jr. (ASN: 0-37001), United States Army, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving with Headquarters, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea from 24 to 28 September 1950. Captain Davis completed fifty combat missions in support of the 25th Infantry Division. Despite anti-aircraft and small arms fire and hazards of weather and mountainous terrain, he flew close in missions to spot gargets for United Nations aircraft and obtain valuable reconnaissance information. His untiring and courageous work was of inestimable value to the success of Division operations and reflects great credit upon himself and the United States Army.

The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Davis and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Army. [This award supersedes award of the Army Commendation Medal to Colonel Davis for meritorious service from 12 September 1959 to 2 October 1961, as announced in General Orders Number 95, Headquarters, U.S. Army Aviation Center, Fort Rucker, Alabama, dated 31 December 1961.]
