The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Legion of Merit to Colonel (Medical Service Corps) Walter L. Beeson, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States from March 1956 to November 1963. [This award supersedes award of the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service from 25 August 1962 to 30 November 1963, as announced in General Orders Number 64, Headquarters, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C., dated 12 December 1963.]
