The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private William H. Peters (ASN: 1388055), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company I, 131st Infantry Regiment, 33d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Bois-de-Chaume, France, 10 October 1918. When the advance of his platoon was held up by an enemy machine-gun, Private Peters on his own initiative flanked the position, killed the gunner, and captured the rest of the crew, thereby allowing the platoon to advance.
