The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Anthony J. Zuvella (ASN: 35521660), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 105th Engineer Combat Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 10 August 1944, in France. In order to protect a front over which an enemy attack was expected, it was necessary to lay a mine field. Sergeant Zuvella took charge of the minelaying detail, and as soon as darkness fell, he and a group of his companions set about their task. Although the enemy was placing heavy artillery and small arms fire on the area to be mined, Sergeant Zuvella nevertheless led his men into it and completed the mission. The courage and leadership exhibited by Sergeant Zuvella were an inspiration to his men and reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
