Headquarters, 34th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 125 (August 12, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Irving C. Zeborowski (ASN: 36713784), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 34th Infantry Division, in action on 30 October 1944, in Italy. Private First Class Zeborowski’s company was given the mission of driving the enemy from a small town. The company attacked but was forced to withdraw after having three men killed and ten wounded by the terrific enemy fire. Private First Class Zeborowski’s squad was then ordered to continue the fight with two tanks as support while the other platoons withdrew and reorganized. In addition to the hazards of enemy fire and numerous anti-personnel mines, deplorable weather conditions helped to make the task an especially difficult one. Private First Class Zeborowski fearlessly led his men through the defensive fires and reached the first of the cluster of buildings. Then, ignoring the enemy machine guns firing directly at him, Private First Class Zeborowski rushed in and engaged seven of the enemy in a fierce fire-fight, killing one, wounding another, and forcing the remaining five to surrender. Private First Class Zeborowski’s courage and gallant leadership enabled his squad to accomplish its mission and reflects highly upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
