Young, United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with the 104th Infantry Division during World War II. Staff Sergeant Young risked his life to rescue a wounded soldier by dashing across 200 yards of fire-swept terrain and carrying him back to cover.
