The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Major (Infantry) Terry J. Yanishewsky (ASN: 0-385506), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters, ** Battalion, *** Infantry Regiment, 83d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 7 July 1944, near ****, France. During an engagement in which the enemy firmly established in a house, were holding up the advance of an assault company with machine guns, Major Yanishewsky, acting with inspired leadership and complete disregard for safety, personally led front line elements of his battalion in an attack on the enemy strong point. During the course of this action Major Yanishewsky was killed. The grim tenacity of purpose and unswerving devotion to duty displayed by this officer reflect great credit upon himself and the finest traditions of the armed forces of the United States.
