The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant James B. Wright (ASN: 20456953), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 9 August 1944, in France. Technical Sergeant Wright was assigned to duty with an infantry force engaged in an attack on a fortified town. Due to the unfavorable terrain, it was impossible to locate the enemy gun positions and Technical Sergeant Wright voluntarily entered the enemy-held town under the cover of darkness, returning with the desired information. The success of this mission performed at great risk to his life, made possible the capture of the town the next day. The personal bravery, and efficient soldiership displayed by Technical Sergeant Wright reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
