(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Technician Fifth Grade Raymond S. Winther, United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving as a Medical Aidman with the 41st Infantry Division during World War II. During a fierce engagement with the Japanese, Sergeant Winther moved up to the front line with the infantry. A sudden enemy barrage drove the troops to hastily-selected shelter, but one rifleman was felled and lay seriously wounded in the impacted area. With complete disregard for his personal safety, Sergeant Winther dashed from behind the security of a rock and rescued the man. Through shrapnel bursts he carried the stricken soldier to the rear and promptly attended his wounds.
