Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 100 (November 14, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Edward G. Wilson (ASN: 33263565), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 197th Field Artillery Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 19 September 1944, in Holland. Private Wilson was serving as a field linesman with the communications section of a field artillery battalion. During an engagement with the enemy, heavy hostile fire disrupted communications and subjected the area through which new lines had to be laid to continuing fire. Private Wilson voluntarily offered his services to perform maintenance work so that communications so vitally needed in the crucial period of the battle could be reestablished. In performing these services, Private Wilson lost his life. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private Wilson, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
