The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Earl F. Wilson (ASN: 0-404551), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy from 24 March 1945 to 27 March 1945, in Germany. Upon approaching a road junction, Captain Wilson’s unit was subjected to heavy enemy small arms and accurate sniper fire. Although well aware that the snipers were directing their fire primarily against leaders, Captain Wilson fearlessly assumed the foremost position of the unit and led his men through the heavy fire to the objective. In the subsequent actions during this period Captain Wilson repeatedly exposed himself to enemy fire to lead his unit forward. His gallant actions were an inspiration to his men and contributed greatly to the successful advance of his unit. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Wilson, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
