The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Herman H. Nubel (ASN: 1707128), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company L, 307th Infantry Regiment, 77th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near St. Pierremont, France, 4 November 1918. Corporal Nubel advanced under heavy machine-gun fire to a position on the flank of his company’s sector, located a machine-gun nest and opened fire on it. He remained in this position in the face of fire from a one-pounder gun.
