The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Marvin W. Warner (ASN: 36548847), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company H, 2d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in France. On 25 December 1944, at 0800 hours, near Sigolshoim, France, Private First Class Warner left the cover of a mortar position and ran 350 yards in short bounds, through artillery and mortar concentrations and small arms fire to repair a break in the communications line between a mortar platoon and its observation post. Finding the break and repairing it despite bullets and shell fragments which whined over his head, Private First Class Warner started to return and surprised a small enemy patrol which had infiltrated into our lines. Firing three clips from his carbine, he wounded two and forced the patrol to withdraw. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Warner, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
