The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Robert A. Tyler (ASN: 0-1294567), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on y July 1944, in France. First Lieutenant Tyler voluntarily led a patrol behind the enemy lines to capture prisoners and destroy enemy strong points. Through his skill and alertness, the patrol was able to successfully perform its mission, eventually killing two of the enemy and destroying two enemy machine guns. Throughout the entire action, First Lieutenant Tyler showed whose fine qualities of leadership which were a profound inspiration to his men. With complete disregard for his personal safety, he advanced on enemy strong points, inflicting casualties and destroying their weapons. Though under continuous enemy fire and with four of his men wounded, he successfully returned his entire patrol to his own lines. The actions of First Lieutenant Tyler on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
