The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Captain (Infantry) Johnie D. Tucker, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 185th Infantry Regiment, 40th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Luzon, Philippine Island, on 11 February 1945. Upon the third attempt of his company to take an objective, placed himself at the head of his troops, and personally led the assault upon the enemy positions through an area which was under continuous rifle, machine gun, and knee mortar fire. Captain Tucker made no attempt to conceal his identity as a leader, and during the assault turned his back to the enemy several times to encourage his men forward. When is executive officer was wounded, he attempted to administer first aid; however, Captain Tucker was moprtally wounded as his men moved by to secure the objective. Captain Tucker’s courage and zealous devotion to duty was a source of great inspiration to the officerrs and men of his company and reflects great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Army.
