Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 92 (November 24, 1950)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Master Sergeant [then Sergeant First Class] Frank J. Tucciarone (ASN: RA-12088611), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 31 August 1950 and 1 September 1950 in the vicinity of Agok, Korea. During this period the enemy had breached our defenses along the Naktong River and had surrounded Company A. Sergeant Tucciarone assumed command of a platoon in the absence of officers. On the morning of 1 September 1950 he voluntarily led a patrol and succeeded in retaking an outpost which had been overrun previously. From this point he directed artillery and machine gun fire upon the enemy who were bringing reinforcements across the river. This fire caused approximately 250 casualties among the enemy. Because of heavy enemy fire and lack of ammunition he was forced to withdraw, evacuating three of our wounded who were found on the outpost. Later on that day he organized and led a patrol into an enemy-held village in an attempt to obtain severely need ammunition and supplies. In the village the patrol encountered the enemy and drove him out. After securing all the ammunition and supplies the patrol could carry he had the remaining supply destroyed. This patrol also rescued and evacuated another of our wounded. The skillful leadership and devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant Tucciarone on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and are in keeping with the finest traditions of the military service.
