The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Clyde Henry Trivett (ASN: 0-1306019), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company E, 2d Battalion, 311th Infantry Regiment, 78th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 31 January 1945 in the vicinity of Kesternich, Germany. During the attack on Kesternich, Germany, First Lieutenant Trivett assumed command of Company E and planned the assault that resulted in the capture of the town. He personally led the assault elements of his unit through 800 yards of house-to-house fighting. Exposing himself to intense automatic weapons and sniper fire, he directed the fire and movements of supporting armor. When outside communications with the tanks failed, First Lieutenant Trivett crawled onto the individual tanks and delivered information concerning targets for their fire. During this action four of the supporting tanks were knocked out by artillery fire. The gallant leadership and inspiring conduct as displayed by First Lieutenant Trivett are in accordance with the highest military traditions,
