The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fourth Grade Eldred E. Trent (ASN: 38566704), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 9 October 1944, in Germany. Despite his being painfully wounded while accompanying attacking infantrymen, Technician Fourth Grade Trent refused evacuation and exposed himself to murderous enemy fire to effect the evacuation of three wounded comrades. He gallantly continued working with the wounded men under the prevailing heavy fire and gave himself first aid only when the men were evacuated. Realizing that every available man was needed on the line, Technician Fourth Grade Trent refused to go to the rear and returned to his platoon. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technician Fourth Grade Trent, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
