The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Lynn B. Thomas (ASN: 14158196), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 230th Field Artillery Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 14 April 1945, in Germany. Enemy shellfire fell among a group of parked vehicles, igniting two truckloads of ammunition. Technician Fifth Grade Thomas volunteered to move another truck from the area to prevent its destruction. He courageously advanced into the hazardous area, and despite the shell fragments from the exploding ammunition, drove the vehicle to safety, His gallant action at great personal risk was responsible for saving a valuable piece of equipment. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technician Fifth Grade Thomas, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
