The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Edward Paul Morrissey (ASN: 1716036), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 302d Engineers, 77th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Bazoches, France, August 25 – 26, 1918. Private Morrissey and another soldier had become separated from their detachment and were forced to take shelter for five and a half days. In the attack he killed two of the enemy with hand grenades, and subsequently returned to our lines, assisting the wounded comrade to safety.
