The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Constanzo D. Tatta (ASN: 31249247), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 24 march 1945, in Germany. Organizing his platoon in the absence of the platoon leader, Technical Sergeant Tatta led it across a mile of open terrain under a hail of artillery and small arms fire to the objective. He moved the platoon so fast that it surprised the enemy at an artillery observation post before it could bring fire on the friendly troops. By his outstanding courage and leadership, Sergeant Tatta quickly seized the objective and prevented numerous casualties suffered by other units of his battalion. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technical Sergeant Tatta, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
