Headquarters, 34th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 76 (August 12, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Takeo Stanley Takahashi (ASN: 30101948), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 100th Infantry Battalion, 442d Regimental Combat Team, in action against the enemy on 26 June 1944, in the vicinity of Belvedere, Italy. While reconnoitering an area 200 yards in the left front of his platoon defense sector with 4 members of his squad, Private First Class Takahashi was pinned down by intense machine pistol fire. Locating the direction of the enemy fire, he crept slowly forward about 50 yards, and was successful in capturing the two of the enemy who were firing on his comrades. Reinforced by his comrades, he reconnoitered forward and approaching an enemy motor pool, directed his men to cover his advance. He surprised and captured 5 enemy guards, 5 jeeps, 1 half-ton personnel carrier, 5 motorcycles and two 2 1/2 ton trucks. The exemplary conduct, courage and initiative displayed by Private First Class Takahashi were an inspiration to his comrades and a credit to himself and his organization.
