The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Technical Sergeant Warren D. Stratton (ASN: 2045715117), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company H, 2d Battalion, 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 8 July 1944. Technical Sergeant Stratton was serving with an infantry assault force given the mission of forcing a river crossing and capturing an objective strongly defended by determined enemy troops. When the impetus of the attack bogged down due to the terrific hostile fire encountered, Technical Sergeant Stratton leaped up and ran forward, encouraging his comrades to follow. His inspirational actions served to inspire a large infantry force into determined efforts and while he lost his life, he was in no small way responsible for the successful conclusion of an important tactical operations. The personal courage and aggressive leadership displayed by Technical Sergeant Stratton reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
