(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Captain (Medical Corps) Edward J. Stratman, United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action while serving as a Medical Officer with the 88th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 9 July 1944, near Villamagna, Italy. Captain Stratman carried and administered blood plasma to badly wounded men in a field under heavy shelling by enemy guns and personally directed their evacuation. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
