The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Captain (Infantry) Julius Andrew Mood, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, during the fighting of July 19 – 20, 1918, near Soissons, France. Captain Mood voluntarily exposed himself to fire repeatedly in order to get information and direct operations, and was killed while leading a battalion to the attack.
