Headquarters, 79th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 41 (August 12, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Rudolph V. Stolfer (ASN: 33268436), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 314th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 11 July 1944 in France. During an intense enemy artillery barrage, when casualties were heavy, Sergeant Stolfer drove a quarter-ton vehicle through the barrage to go to the aid of a severely wounded soldier at a time when all medical aid men and litter bearers were occupied with the wounded in other areas. He was able to place the wounded man in the vehicle and transport him, through the barrage, to a battalion aid station. For his unhesitating devotion to duty, and his gallantry at the risk of his life, Sergeant Stolfer reflects highest credit on himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
