The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Morris A. Stoffer (ASN: 0-1312234), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 2 October 1944, in Germany. Captain Stoffer distinguished himself as the Commanding Officer of the assault company of his regiment in the attack across the Wurm River. When his company was pinned down at the river by intense crossfire from enemy pillboxes and a mortar concentration, which caused many casualties, Captain Stoffer, at the risk of his life, moved about through the perilous fire, contacted each platoon, and succeeded in reorganizing his company. Captain Stoffer’s outstanding courage inspired his men to advance and seize the enemy strongpoints from them. The bravery, aggressive determination, and exemplary leadership exhibited by Captain Stoffer reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
