The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Frederick Dana Standish, II (ASN: 0-24981), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 376th Infantry Regiment, 94th Infantry Division, in Germany. During the period 15 February 1945 to 26 February 1945, Captain Standish, completely disregarding his own safety, fearlessly led his company, encouraging and inspiring his men by his bold, courageous example. When heavy casualties were sustained during the bitter conflict he brilliantly employed his under-strength company and captured more than 125 Germans. His calm, fearless leadership under fire, his loyalty, and his unswerving devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
