The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Henry Miller (ASN: 1708665), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company E, 308th Infantry Regiment, 77th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Binarville, France, 3 October 1918. When his company had been cut off from communication and exposed to intense shell and machine-gun fire, Private Miller observed and attacked an enemy sniper, silencing further fire from that source. While attempting to return he was killed by machine-gun fire.
