The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private First Class Arthur M. Miller (ASN: 557794), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 47th Infantry Regiment, 4th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Sergy, France, 1 August 1918. Private Miller was killed while returning with an answer to a very important message which he had voluntarily delivered at a very critical state of the attack. His mission was one of extreme danger, taking him to the most advanced position through a sweeping fire of artillery and machine guns.
