Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 127 (December 18, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Arnold L. Snyder (ASN: 0-1325414), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 1st Battalion, 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 11 July 1944, in France. Second Lieutenant Snyder distinguished himself when his company position was attacked at night by a strong enemy force composed of tanks, armored cards, and infantry troops. Observing three enemy tanks approaching his company’s position, Second Lieutenant Snyder quickly directed a man armed with a rocket launcher into firing position. Loading the weapon himself, Second Lieutenant Snyder assisted in destroying two of the enemy tanks and forcing the third to flee. He was instrumental in completing the rout of the remainder of the enemy force by helping a machine gunner destroy one of the armored cars. Second Lieutenant Snyder’s outstanding conduct showed him to be a capable and aggressive leader, and was largely responsible for breaking up a serious counterattack. The bravery, aggressive determination, and exemplary leadership exhibited by Second Lieutenant Snyder reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
