Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 178 (July 5, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Arthur L. Snow (ASN: 0-1306490), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 9 July 1944, in France. When a determined enemy counterattack forced rifle elements of his unit to fall back from their positions, First Lieutenant Snow courageously exposed himself to heavy fire in order to calm the shaken men and direct them back to their positions. He then returned and directed the fire of his own and another mortar platoon on the advancing enemy. First Lieutenant Snow’s gallant actions contributed much to the stemming of the enemy counterattack. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by First Lieutenant Snow, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
