The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Staff Sergeant Archie Keith Snow (ASN: 16143045), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 105th Engineer Combat Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 7 August 1944, in France. Staff Sergeant Snow was assigned to duty with a combat engineer unit of an infantry organization. During a counterattack by enemy forces, spearheaded by tanks, a breakthrough was made which threatened to engulf our defenses. Staff Sergeant Snow, with complete disregard for his personal safety, voluntarily met the attack with a bazooka and so successfully and accurately directed the firing that the leading enemy tank was knocked out, which in turn made a road block which hampered the following tanks. Later in the day, still under constant and terrific fire from enemy guns, in leading a force to wipe out an enemy infantry patrol which had infiltrated through our lines, Staff Sergeant Snow lost his life. The personal bravery, determined initiative, and exemplary devotion to duty exhibited by Staff Sergeant Snow reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
