The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Norman E. Skiver (ASN: 38353628), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 3 April 1945, in Germany. Staff Sergeant Skiver’s platoon was advancing through thick underbrush when it was suddenly subjected to intense small arms fire from enemy positions located a short distance away which caused several casualties. Despite the deadly fire concentrated on him, Staff Sergeant skiver courageously advanced to where one of his wounded comrades lay and carried him seventy yards up the slope of a hill under fire to safety and administered first aid. Staff Sergeant Skiver’s gallantry and devotion to his comrade reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
