The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Corps of Engineers) Paul K. Sisson (ASN: 0-1157789), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 105th Engineer Combat Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 7 July 1944, in France. As Liaison Officer between the 105th Engineer Combat Battalion and an Infantry Regiment, Second Lieutenant Sisson personally led an attacking infantry battalion to the site where assault boats were to depart. Following completion of this mission, Second Lieutenant Sisson volunteered to lead the succeeding battalion over the most direct route to a footbridge which had been placed across the river. The area between the line of departure and the river was over 400 yards of open terrain, over which the enemy had continuous observation, with a resulting constant and heavy artillery, mortar, and small arms fire. The personal bravery of Second Lieutenant Sisson and his complete disregard for his personal safety reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
