The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Alban (Albin) Charles Sipe, Jr. (ASN: 20930253), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 3d Battalion, 163d Infantry Regiment, 41st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy near Sanananda Point, New Guinea, on 22 January 1943. While on duty as Intelligence Sergeant, Sergeant Sipe accurately plotted the position of a Japanese stronghold which was delaying the advance of his unit. With the information supplied by Sergeant Sipe, the battalion was able to move ahead and reach its objective. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant Sipe, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
