The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private William Joseph McNamee (ASN: 748096), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 3d Ammunition Train, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Crezancy and Chateau-Thierry, France, 15 July 1918. On the morning of the 15th of July, Private McNamee, with Private Robert Eckweiler, volunteered and brought up a truck for the purpose of saving the records of the 30th Infantry, which were in danger of capture. He was killed while attempting this mission.
