Headquarters, 79th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 75 (May 12, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Ralph D. Shrewsbury (ASN: 0-435914), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 315th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 12 January 1945 in France. When contact with his forward observation post was lost due to a heavy enemy attack, Captain Shrewsbury, Company Commander, advanced across open terrain and small arms in an effort to reach the position. Arriving there, he discovered his men had been disorganized by the fierceness of the attack. Swiftly he rallied his men and reorganized the position. Establishing contact with supporting artillery, Captain Shrewsbury called for and adjusted fire on the enemy so effectively that the attack was repulsed. The courage and leadership displayed by Captain Shrewsbury reflect high credit upon the Armed Forces of the United States.
