Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 161 (June 20, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Chaplain) Frank E. Schweissing (ASN: 0-519808), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with as a Chaplain with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 26 March 1945, in Germany. When a heavy concentration of enemy artillery fire fell among troops advancing to attack and caused numerous casualties, Captain Schweissing fearlessly entered the hazardous area and assisted in administering first aid and evacuating the wounded to an aid station. A sniper opened fire on Captain Schweissing as he was going to the assistance of a wounded man, but he ignored the fire which struck all around him and courageously helped the men to the aid station. Captain Schweissing’s gallant actions reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
