The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Seymour Schwartz (ASN: 42041852), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 302d Infantry Regiment, 94th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Germany on 9 February 1945. Hearing that a seriously wounded comrade was lying in a fire-swept mine field, completely ignoring advice that entering the treacherous mine field would be suicidal, he attempted to remove the stricken soldier would be suicidal, he attempted to remove the stricken soldier. Disregarding the intense fire and thinking only of the welfare of his fellow-in-arms, Private Schwartz entered the mine field and while going to the aid of the wounded man was mortally wounded when three miens exploded. Private Schwartz’s conspicuous courage and heroic determination are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and live on as a constant inspiration to his comrades.
