The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Raymond B. Scheuring (ASN: 0-1311689), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 23 February 1945, in Germany. During the assault crossing of the Roer River, First Lieutenant Scheuring’s company commander was thrown int o the water when his boat capsized. First Lieutenant Scheuring immediately assumed command of the company. Despite constant enemy artillery and mortar fire, he moved forward to the attacking platoons, organizing the company as he went along. Although the enemy fire continued in intensity he gallantly led his men forward and succeeded in taking an important objective. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by First Lieutenant Scheuring, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
