The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fourth Grade Armon A. Sasser (ASN: 34031401), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 230th Field Artillery Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 16 July 1944, in France. A concentration of artillery fire fell n the infantry troops Technician Fourth Grade Sasser was accompanying and wounded his artillery observer. Technician Fourth Grade Sasser, suspecting that the fire was from friendly batteries, courageously exposed himself to make radio contact with them. His belief proved to be correct, and as a result of his unhesitating action the fire was immediately lifted and further casualties prevented. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technician Fourth Grade Sasser, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
