The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Pete McCoy (ASN: 1981743), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Bellicourt, France, 29 September 1918. Unexpectedly encountering seven of the enemy, Private McCoy, single-handed, killed them all with his bayonet and a hand grenade. As a result of this feat he captured four machine-gun emplacements and took 17 prisoners out of a dugout near by. Upon advancing further he found a wounded officer, whom he sent to the rear in charge of another soldier, and continued on to the objective.
