The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class [then Private] Louis A. Saccomanno (ASN: 32758831), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 3 April 1945, in Germany. During an attack near the town of Biblefeld, four friendly troops were wounded by heavy enemy fire and were lying exposed and unable to aid themselves due to their wounds and the continuing enemy fire. Private First Class Saccomanno, seeing the wounded men lying helplessly under the merciless hail of fire, immediately dashed forward and succeeded in reaching the nearest man. With the enemy fire still raking the terrain, Private First Class Saccomanno carried the wounded men to safety and hastily rendered first aid. Three times he returned through the withering fire until all four men were removed and treated. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Saccomanno, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
