The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Albert B. Moshier (ASN: 32575621), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 2d Battalion, 232d Infantry Regiment, 42d Infantry Division, in action on 20 March 1945 near Ludwigswinkel, Germany. When his company was subjected to heavy enemy fire, Sergeant Moshier, a squad leader, volunteered to cover its withdrawal to positions where it could reorganize for a counter-attack. Deliberately exposing himself to draw enemy fire upon himself, Sergeant Moshier hurled grenades at enemy positions and laid down rapid and accurate rifle fire. Not until all men of the company had withdrawn did he attempt to reach his own lines. He was unable to return, however, and was taken prisoner. By his courage and devotion to duty he enabled his company to withdraw to covered positions and prepare a successful attack.
