The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Kenneth E. Rowley (ASN: 37362594), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 17 April 1945, in Germany. From his position in a house Private Rowley observed two enemy soldiers, one of whom was carrying a rocket launcher, making their way toward the company’s positions. Unhesitatingly exposing himself to the heavy fire which swept the street, Private Rowley opened up with his automatic rifle and killed the soldier carrying the rocket launcher. His companion picked up the weapon and turned it on him, but before he could fire Private Rowley dispatched his with another burst. His courageous action eliminated a dangerous threat to his company. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private Rowley, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
